Our Legacy

A Heart for the Community: Our Philanthropic Legacy

At Gorman’s, we believe that the success of a business is measured by the strength of the community it supports. For over 80 years, giving back has not been a corporate initiative—it has been a core responsibility. This culture was established by our founders and is carried forward today by our leadership team, who view our showrooms not just as retail spaces, but as centers for civic involvement and advocacy.

Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party

One of our most impactful initiatives is the annual "Michigan’s Largest Housewarming Party." Recognizing that many families transitioning into stable housing lack the basic essentials to make a house feel like a home, Gorman’s partners with three incredible local nonprofits to bridge that gap.

Through this program, we offer free furniture pick-ups across Metro Detroit, collecting gently used items to furnish the homes of families in need. Since its inception, this drive has helped hundreds of neighbors start their next chapter with dignity.

Our Housewarming Partners

  • Humble Design Detroit
A nonprofit that serves families and veterans transitioning out of homeless shelters by providing professional design and furnishings.

A Decades-Long Commitment to Advocacy

Our leadership’s personal dedication has fostered long-term partnerships that span nearly 20 years.

  • The Arc of Oakland County
For over 17 years, Gorman’s has been a proud partner of The Arc of Oakland County, an organization that advocates for the rights of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our annual Charity Recliner Promotion has become a community staple, raising tens of thousands of dollars to support The Arc’s mission while providing our customers a way to shop with a purpose.

  • Showroom Philanthropy
Following the visionary lead of Bernie Moray, our showrooms in Southfield, Troy, and Novi frequently serve as host sites for nonprofit galas, community meetings, and fundraising events, keeping our doors open to the causes that matter most to Michigan.

"Giving back was not just a value for Bernie and Tom; it was a responsibility. We are proud to continue that legacy, ensuring that as Gorman’s grows, so does our ability to support those who need it most."
— Jonathan Moray, CEO
